Imagine a home where everything is brand new but it still manages to give the impression of having been lived in and loved for generations. That s what you can do with layered interior d cor. By starting with very simple basics, wood or tile floors, soft, earth-hued paints and wall coverings and basic appliances and fixtures, you can build your new d cor one layer at a time. You can use your basic sofa and chair, but liven them up with some authentic, handcrafted teak end tables or maybe a teak coffee table. Teak is the most durable of woods, being both highly weather resistant and with the tendency to age beautifully. It s tough enough to handle a houseful of kids and gracious enough to hold your grandmother s Limoges tea set.

Liven up the floors with woven rugs and mats, all hand crafted with time-honored care and pride by the fine artisans of Thailand. Use the woven wall hangings, all adorned with silk needlework, elaborate beadwork and even mirrors to dress up your new walls. Each one of this is a work of art, and while many carry themes common to the Thai culture, or that are highly desirable by other markets, each of these kalagas (wall hangings) is a distinct and individual work of art. That means no two of them are exactly the same and it s that kind of unique style that adds depth and drama to the layers of your new house s beautiful interior.

Set your dining room table with woven reed place mats and use a colorful glazed pot from our collection of pottery and glassware to be your centerpiece. We ve got handcrafted silk flowers in an astounding array of lifelike blossoms from which you can create a perpetual centerpiece. We ve even got the rich, aromatic candles that will add spice to the flavorful scents of the food you ll be serving.

In order to amass such a diverse range of hand-made art and craft decorative items and furnishings, you could spend years, perhaps even decades, avidly combing the bazaars and marketplaces of the East to seek out their treasures. We decided to make it much simpler for you. We ve done the searching. All you have to do is click on one website and you will be transported to a special cyber-bazaar designed with your discriminating taste in mind.

Oil for food scandal: UN releases third report

Tuesday, August 9, 2005

The UN-appointed panel investigating the oil for food scandal has released its third report.

The report says that Benon Sevan took nearly US$150,000 in cash bribes. Chef de Cabinet for Kofi Annan, Mark Malloch Brown, said that the UN would lift Sevan’s immunity should an approach come from a law enforcement authority and that the UN had been in ‘active collaboration’ with the Southern District of New York.

At the press conference responding to the report, Malloch Brown also said that there was will “a real need for serious, deep-rooted management reform of our organization, and that does not seem to be yet fully accepted by all member states.”

Benon Sevan, who worked for the UN for nearly 40 years before resigning on Sunday, has denied the accusation. In his resignation letter to Kofi Annan, he wrote: “The charges are false and you, who have known me all these years, should know they are false… I fully understand the pressure you are under…, but sacrificing me for political expediency will never appease our critics or help you or the organisation.”

A former UN procurement officer Alexander Yakovlev has pleaded guilty to accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from UN contractors.

Peter Forsberg scores two in win over the Boston Bruins

Friday, November 25, 2005

In Friday’s National Hockey League contest between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Peter Forsberg almost netted his first “hat trick” in a Flyers uniform. At one point during the game, he had been given credit for three goals, however an official review took his first goal away, and officially he scored his eighth goal of the season at 13:06 in the second period with assists from Simon Gagne and former Hartford Whaler Sami Kapanen.

To date, there have been 24 hat tricks (3 or more goals in one game) in this NHL season.

Forsberg, a 32 year old native of Sweden, recently joined the Flyers for the 2005-2006 season after spending the NHL lockout season with Modo, Sweden.

The Flyers ended up winning the game 5-3, adding yet another loss to an already disappointing Bruins season.

Australian treasurer declares that he is “a lot of fun”

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Australian Treasurer Peter Costello said today that he was “a lot of fun” while he was outlining his plans for Australia as a possible future Prime Minister.

During an interview with ABC Radio, Mr Costello was asked to say something about himself that the public didn’t know. Mr Costello’s replied “That I’m a lot of fun – a lot of fun and good company.”

Costello, who is considered current Australian Prime Minister John Howard’s likely successor when he retires, said he was not expecting an easy rise to the Prime Ministership, admitting that the forthcoming federal election would be difficult.

The treasurer said “If you read polls, then (Kevin) Rudd is in front and he’s already carrying on as if he’s got the election in the bag,”

“I would say an election is not over until all of the votes have been counted on the polling day, and I think it will be a hard-fought election.”

Mr Costello also outlined his vision for Australia should he become Prime Minister in the future centering his platform upon education and water.

“I think we need first, a first-class technical school system in this country, training people for trades,” Mr Costello said.

“I think we need improved standards of literacy in our primary and secondary schools and I think we need better facilities at the tertiary level.”

The treasurer admitted that education was one of his key priorities as he had been a university tutor and had a father who was a teacher. Speaking of his father, Costello said “I watched him influence generations of students,”

“I know the difference that a good school teacher makes in a person’s life and I believe in the importance of education.”

Mr Costello also said that Australia would need to carefully manage its water resources for the future.

“We have to manage our water better, we have to invest in water better, we have to harness water better, we have to price water better,” he said.

“I think we really do have a water crisis in this country and it’s something that we’re going to have to deal with in order to keep our country growing and our lifestyle up in the decades which lie ahead.” Mr Costello criticised state governments for failing to invest in water infrastructure and predicted desalination plants would have a major role to play in securing the nation’s water supply.

“There has not been enough investment in dams, there has not been enough investment in pipes, in irrigation canals and I think we’re going to have to look very, very carefully at desalination plants for our major capital cities,” said the Australian Treasurer.

Submitted by: Stewart Wrighter

Do you currently have a stunning grand piano that you would like to add illumination to? Are you seeking a way to light up your sheet music in a stylish and elegant way that would not take away from the beauty of your piano? A beautiful grand piano lamp can be just the ornament to assist you in viewing your sheet music or even just bring a spotlight to your piano. The perfect piano light is more than just a light; in fact, it can be a stunning accessory. If you are seeking a striking light fixture then you will be glad to learn that there is a large selection to choose from for every kind of piano, from stately antiques to more modern and contemporary styles. Therefore, there should not be any difficulty in locating something that suits your tastes and needs.

For example, if you just require something that lights up your sheet music and nothing more than you may like a fixture that clips onto your sheet music board. Both small and functional, this kind of lighting is portable and discreet. You can also discover a fixture that is little enough that it does not detract from additional light sources or from the beautiful piano. Where a piano light is concerned, it is important that it enhance the loveliness of the piano, not detract from it.

If your piano is an antique or has a more conventional look to it then you may like a fixture with an antique brass base or a polished brass finish that can look beautiful with an old-fashioned or older style piano. A lighting fixture that works with your piano, and complements it, is preferred.

Naturally, if your piano boasts a more modern look then a fixture that is contemporary in style may be a better selection for your needs. You can also find these in numerous designs. Additionally, you will see that there is a fixture on hand for your other requirements, too, and this can be very helpful. For instance, a clip-on light is convenient and adaptable whereas a full swivel lamp will allow you to illuminate your sheet music or even the entire piano with hardly any exertion on your part.

Regardless as to which particular fixture you choose, you can be certain that there is a lamp that will almost certainly be more than fitting for your piano and your requirements. In recent times, a light does not have to merely be practical and full of purpose. As a matter of fact, a lamp can be an item of beauty and add embellishment to the piano and even the room in general.

Consequently, making sure you choose the right one with consideration and deliberation and purchasing your lighting fixture from a reputable business that has a comprehension of style and sophistication can go a long way in ensuring that your piano remains a thing of beauty.
