Tungsten rings are attractive and unconventional rings with a lot of elegance, and mystery. They make great wedding bands for non traditional couples who want rings that are different and stand out from the generally seen gold rings, and even tungsten rings in the natural light whitish gray color. Black tungsten rings also respond very well to engraving on the interior band, since the miniscule lines created by the engraving tool can reveal white tungsten underneath or throw the letters into a dramatic shadow, giving your personal message a special gleam. There are some especially nice styles in men s Black tungsten rings, because men appreciate the strength and durability of tungsten and the easy transition black tungsten makes from casual to formal settings. A black ring is less overt than gold or platinum, and much preferred by alternative personalities or men who simply don t want to wear a lot of flashy jewelry.

A black tungsten ring s black plating itself isn t completely scratchproof because it is an anodized tungsten alloy added to the surface of the tungsten carbide ring later to give it this distinctive glowing black color, but it is very strong and regular tungsten itself will not scratch. I have a few black tungsten rings and have kept them from scratching with some simple common sense I remove them when I work in the garden, wash dishes, have a very hands-on task at work, or do any other activity that is generally rough on the hands. When I put my rings away, I place them in their original ring boxes. If you don t have the box your rings came in, or you didn t get a ring box when you purchased or received them, ring boxes and pouches are plentiful at all jewelry shops and most gift stores or department stores. Any container in which you black tungsten ring will be kept in soft fabric and separate from other jewelry is fine.

Tungsten ring are becoming really popular today because of its appeal and functionality. More and more people are starting to take notice of these because tungsten rings have proven that they can be an alternative to the traditional gold, silver, and titanium rings, which people have been used to. There are a lot of reasons why you should buy and wear tungsten rings. To understand why people are attracted to rings, let s take a look at the different qualities of rings.

Authorities blockade Chinese town rebelling over land dispute

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Villagers in the Chinese town of Wukan are now in open revolt as, in the fourth month of their land dispute with the government, they expelled all Communist Party officials. Last Sunday they also repelled an attempt by around a thousand police to retake the town using tear gas and water cannons.

Negotiations were previously ongoing over the land dispute with villagers claiming farmland was taken, and sold to private developers Country Garden, with no compensation provided to locals. However, recent remarks over the legality of the initial protests in September by a county-level spokesperson prompted a return to street protests last week in the Guangdong province town.

Mass-protests on economic grounds are frequent in China. An average of around 15,000 protests occur each month. Local officials are frequently accused of requisitioning land, using police and thugs to intimidate rural farmers and complete — often illegal — evictions. Following this, and as seems the case in Wukan, the land is sold on to local developers and entrepreneurs with no compensation paid to the evicted.

When rioting began this September in Wukan, State news agency Xinhua said that eleven investigations into forced evictions which had led to violent protests were underway. A total of 31 local officials were facing potential criminal charges, with the reported cases of land grabs a mix of “illegal” and “badly executed” evictions. In at least one case, a forced eviction resulted in the death of a 48-year-old woman.

Following on from the days of rioting over the land-grab in September, and the police’s ruthless retaking of the town of 20,000, Lufeng county government officials — in an exceptional move — commenced negotiations with representatives chosen by the villagers themselves. Until, that is, last week after a local official asserted the town’s chosen negotiators were helping “overseas forces that want to sow divisions between the government and villagers.” This prompted a resumption of protesting — including a sit-in by the villagers.

Plain-clothes police mounted an operation against the villagers last Friday, capturing five of the town’s thirteen chosen representative–negotiators. Amongst those seized was 42-year-old Xue Jinbo, who died in custody on Sunday. Villagers, including Xue’s 24-year-old son-in-law, claim he was tortured and that, when visiting the funeral home where the body is being held, his corpse was bloody and bruised, and his thumbs broken. Xinhua disputes these claims, asserting the cause of death was a heart attack; and, that this occurred following Xue confessing to criminal involvement with the September rioting.

News of the uprising in Wukan is subject to censorship in China media — including through online censorship of micro-blogging sites. The BBC reports Sina Weibo, the Chinese hybrid–equivalent of Twitter and Facebook, returns the message: “According to relevant law, regulations and policies, search results for Wukan cannot be displayed” when a search for the town’s name is made. It is being suggested that Chinese web users have switched to using the tag “WK”, which can be taken as an abbreviation of either “Wukan” or “What is going on?” And, at-present the English-language website for Xinhua returns no search results for “Wukan”, and none that are relevant to the revolt when searching for the province name, “Guangdong”.

Now under-siege from police, food and water are not being allowed into the town by Communist authorities, and residents are being prevented from leaving. Some town residents reportedly say they are able to obtain supplies from neighbouring villages, but it has also been reported Wukan only has enough supplies to last about ten days.

Al Sharpton speaks out on race, rights and what bothers him about his critics

Monday, December 3, 2007

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”

Don’t Worry. I Got This.}

Don’t Worry. I Got This.

by

Stacey Curnow

I recently wrote about the power of your story in anticipation of meeting 12 women for The Power of Your Story event I was hosting. All of the women were truly amazing and I would love to write about each one of them. Today, with her permission, I will tell the story of one of them.

Patricia Alcivar is the most inspiring woman Ive ever met and Ive known a lot of inspiring women. She is an incest survivor and left her family to live on the streets of NYC when she was 15 years old. She developed a friendship with a trainer who became the first person to believe in her and her talents and taught her to box.

She worked hard and eventually made it to the first ever Women’s National Amateur Boxing Championship. She says, I had just come from a recent loss at the NYC Golden Gloves when I really should have won. It was a complete robbery, but my trainer taught me the valuable lesson of never ever giving up no matter what. We trained harder and went to the Nationals and fought each of the 3 opponents with skill and determination to get me into the finals.

For the final championship match she was paired against Leona Brown (better known as Little Tyson for her sheer ruthlessness), who had just won every one of her previous matches in this competition with a knockout. Patricias friends could barely hide their concern for her safety and doubt for her ability to win.

At the weigh-in her opponent talked trash about her and even shoved her, but Patricia remained calm. As her friends complained and criticized the other players behavior, Patricia felt calm and centered. She didnt know where her clarity came from, but she told her friends with utmost confidence, Dont worry. I got this.

And she did. She handily beat Little Tyson with her skill, talent and extraordinary determination. That performance led her to be the first woman in history to be voted athlete of the year by the USOC (United States Olympic Committee). Patricia is currently training as a professional for the world championship title. My money is definitely on her to win it.

Patricias story is a profound testament to what can be achieved when you realize that negative events and circumstances dont define you, but you define you. You always have the ability to choose your response in any situation.

But what if you dont feel you have Patricias level of determination to achieve your goals and dreams? What can you do to develop the ability to choose your response and define your story for yourself?

The answer is simple, though it can be tough to put it into practice. You can become aware of your inner voice.

When you heed your inner voice (or what some call a gut feeling), you strengthen your intuition your best guide to creating a life you love. And when you honor your intuition, your awareness will change in a myriad of amazing and unexpected ways

If you listen to it, your intuition will first make you aware of an astonishing number of so-called coincidences. Things will start to fit in ways you never dreamed they could. Soon these coincidences will seem less like coincidences and more like signpoststurning points in the road to a desired destination, whether or not you know what that destination is. And then, after a while, you will experience life as a constantly unfolding miracle in which everything you need is ready at hand right when you need itand sometimes even before you know you did.

Thats not to say that youll enjoy everything that happens, just that as time goes by the challenges and crises of your life will come to seem like the necessary training for the challenges you must confront on the way to your best life.

There are two main reasons for this. The first is that, if you give your challenges the proper attention, they can help you focus on what you do want. Three months after my son was born I felt I needed to return to work. My work as a midwife required that I spend 24-hours shifts in the hospital and I didnt want to be separated from my nursing infant for such extended periods of time. When I thought the financial necessity of returning to work required an unwanted separation from my child, I felt awful I knew I didnt want that.

The realization of what I didnt want helped me form the desire for what I did want: I decided I would work in the hospital and bring my son with me. At the time it was absolutely unprecedented for a mother to bring her baby to work, and I had to work hard to convince the administration of its feasibility, but I did it and my child (and my husband who cared for him while I was seeing patients) came to work with me for over a year and a half. And I have to say that it wasnt easy to juggle caring for my own child and caring for my patients, but it was worth it. Just like drawing something by drawing the space around it, you can find out your best life by paying close attention to your feelingsespecially the ones you dont want, or dont feel you have a right to listen toas you observe the life you have.

More importantly, though, your intuition can find in the challenges of your life all the evidence you need that youre ready for something greater. As I wrote in my “Providence Moves” article, almost 10 years ago I knew I wanted more from my life but it took a little while before I figured out that it was living and working in remote Mexican villages. Did this seem impossible for a while? Yes. Was I scared to commit to that path? Absolutely. But as I looked at a life that was otherwise satisfactory I felt such a strong sense something was missing that I saw how much greater the life I really wanted was, and that if I chose, I could make it happen.

It may take some time before you hear it, too, but when you finally get the big thing your inner voice is trying to tell you, you will also hear it say, Dont worry. I got this. It may be too small for you to hear it easily. It may be crowded out by all the other messages competing for your attention. But you can become aware of it. And using its wisdom is a great way to create your own powerful story.

But what do you do about those competing messages? What can you do to meet the challenges with openness for what they have to teach you about your life and what you most want? As I said, it takes some practice. But practicing your intuition is a lot more straightforward than you might think.

Try this exercise: take five minutes today (and every day from now on) and find a comfortable, quiet place to sit and think.

During this time think about what has happened in the day that most challenged you and ask, What was that supposed to teach me? Can I find what was good and necessary about it?

Then allow your intuition, your quiet inner voice, to offer the answer. When the 5 minutes is up, write your thoughts down. If you do this every day you will be astounded by how many people and situations show up in order to give you answers. More and more you will hear your inner voice saying, Dont worry. I got this.

Tips Of Buying A Second Hand Car}

Tips of Buying a Second Hand Car

by

Alan Lim

There are things to take into consideration before buying the second hand car and these are:

1. Educate yourself as a consumer

2. Prepare a list of your needs. Prioritize between the necessities and the wants.

3. Determine the budget and the kind of car that would best fit.

4. Make a selection by models and types. Narrowing them will be helpful.

5. Research both online and offline by dealers.

6. Know the value of the second hand car in the market.

7. Research the Vehicle Identification Numbers and history.

8. Take a mechanic when checking the second hand car whether buying from a friend or a car dealer.

9. Never shy away from asking questions.

10. If there’s a gut feeling about it not being good, don’t be afraid to walk away.

Bringing a mechanic along is always a good strategy. Make sure your mechanic inspects the totality of the car, from the history down to its last screw. It should be parked on a level spot. You should make certain that it was driven for about an hour. This should make it a good time to make the inspection. Always make it on a well lit surrounding and in broad daylight.

How to inspect it thoroughly:

Checking the exterior. Walk around to see if there is damage to the body. The corners of the car should be shaken and bounced up and down to see if the shock absorbers are still in good condition. Make sure that the wheel bearings do not make any sound when trying to pull the front tires by tugging them. Open the doors lift the hood and the trunk to see if all the rubber seals are still in place. This will also tell if there’s anything loose around the hinges. Check for signs of repaint. There will be difference in the color because shops can never duplicate the original paint of the car. Ask someone to turn on all the lights outside of the car and look if all are working. Cars with only 30,000 miles of travel must still have its original tires. Beware if you find a second hand car with only a few miles of travel but has new tires. When the test drive is done, check the discs of the brakes, this should still be clean and smooth. Check the windshield for cracks.

Checking the Interior. Though it sounds odd, smell the insides of the car. Sniff under mats and the carpet. If it smells like mildew then it’s a sign that there is a leak somewhere or that the car may have undergone flood damage. Switch on the air-conditioning to make sure that it really turns the whole inside of the second hand car cold. Next, try the heater. Try out all lights inside as well and never forget to blow the horn. Also try all the seat adjustments. The upholstery should still be in good shape too. There will be a lot more to check and here is where the mechanic can help the buyer.

Looking inside the trunk. Once more, smell the insides and check for any signs of leaks. Make sure that some basic car tools are still present for the new user.

Checking under the hood. Feel the wiring for any cracks or brittleness. Squeeze the hoses and the fan belt for any cuts and possible electrical tape patches. Do not take off the cap of the radiator until its cool enough. The greenish color indicates a good condition where the coolant is. Beware of stains and dirty-whitish color on the radiator. Again, let the rest be checked by the mechanic like the batteries.

Checking under the car. Lie down if you must and use an emergency light to see the engine underneath. Feel any signs of residue. Check the pipes and examine any possibility of heavy rusting.

Do the Test Drive. The owner or dealer should not stop a buyer from going over about twenty minutes of test drive. This is a special time to thoroughly look for any problems with the air-conditioning, heater, steering wheel, brakes, transmission, and most importantly, the comfort. Feel everything; its okay to try it on a hump or a slight bumpy road to really experience the performance. Listen carefully to check any rattles. Have a pen and paper, flashlight, gloves, magnet, towel, blanket and even CD or tape when checking a second hand car out.

US Congress drafting bill that may affect Internet freedoms

Sunday, April 23, 2006

The United States Congress is currently drafting a bill known as the Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Efficiency Act of 2006 that would revise and update the 1996 Telecommunications Act. Currently phone and cable lobbyists who own the broadband networks, such as those from AT&T and BellSouth, are calling on the federal government to permit them to operate Internet and other digital communications services as private networks. The bill as it now stands states that certain classes of Internet providers “may not unreasonably” impair, interfere, restrict or limit applications or services, such as Web sites or voice-over-IP phone connections.

Consumer advocates such as Common Cause and some large Internet companies such as Google and Yahoo are concerned that this change will result in a loss of what is being called network neutrality, and are demanding specific language in the bill to address it. Three weeks ago, the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications rejected an amendment to the bill that would have strengthened provisions for network neutrality. The amendment was defeated by a vote of 28 to 8.

Network neutrality is a principle of computer networking that describes networks designed so that no communication, application, or service is either given preferential treatment or restricted.

Advocates of network neutrality fear that allowing broadband networks to operate unregulated could lead to preferential treatment toward certain companies at the expense of others. Phone companies who oppose network neutrality legislation contend that some mechanism needs to be in place in order to pay for expansion of the public Internet.

Edward Whitacre, AT&T’s chief executive officer, had made remarks on the issue that consumer groups found inflammatory. In remarks made on November 7, 2005, presumably referring to Internet sites using their network connections, he called for “some mechanism for these people who use these pipes to pay for the portion they’re using. Why should they be allowed to use my pipes?”

Whitacre has since reversed his public statements, saying on March 21, 2006, “Any provider that blocks access to content is inviting customers to find another provider. And that’s just bad business.”

Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin believes that the FCC already has the authority to enforce network neutrality provisions, citing a North Carolina case in which the FCC acted against Madison River Communications for blocking Vonage VoIP phone service.

Representative Fred Upton from Michigan, chairman of the Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee, describes the bill as a way to “ignite the marketplace — unleashing great advances in technology and delivering to consumers a variety of new services at a lower cost that were once never even imagined. Every consumer in the nation with a telephone, television and access to the Internet will be better for it — the wave of the future is now.”

Michael Copps, a FCC Commissioner, said recently, “This Internet may not be the one we know in the future there are threats to it out there… Entrenched interests are already jockeying to constrain the openness that has been the Internet’s defining hallmark.”

A recent poll done by The Consumer Federation of America (See source 5) shows that the Internet has taken on an important role in the daily life of Americans. With two-thirds reporting it is important for personal communications and researching products, over half said it is important for getting news and, about 40 percent cited online banking, e-commerce, and retrieving government information as significant ways in which they used the internet. They expressed a great deal of concern about discriminatory practices of communications network operators.

The revision of the 1996 Telecommunications Act was proposed by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., in late March and went on to the full committee on April 5.

The Ways To Find A Good Dentist}

The ways to find a good dentist

by

Danielle Saige

In general, people prefer a regular dentist for any kind of trouble they face related to their teeth. Although there is a wide range of dentists available to serve the different type of dental problems, you have to ensure that you choose the best among them so that you receive the best of treatments that a doctor can offer.

There are number of ways to find a suitable dentist who would take proper care and treat your teeth well. The steps are listed below for your reference.

1. The most ideal way is to look for reference from patients who are known to you and trustworthy. It can be your relatives, neighbor, friends or even colleagues who have been close.

2. You can even make your search on the internet where there are several dentist directories, yellow pages on offer and websites of the dental clinics which include one of the best doctors of the city. All these sites would give you detailed information on the address, name, contact number, the timings and the days they see their patients.

3. It would not be a very wise decision to evaluate a dentist with the amount of fees charged. In case, you have a dental health insurance plan, look for a dentist who accepts and participates in such things.

4. Do not get influenced by the inflated promotions and advertisements of a dentist which may not have any link with the quality of the dentist you are looking for.

5. It is always advisable to meet more than one dentist for the confirmation of the problem you are facing. It also helps you to understand the extent of comfort level you can share with the dentists and ensure a long-standing relationship.

6. In case you have your own children, enquire whether the dentist deals with children along with the adults. It is also important for you to check the fee structure of the dentist for common and general dental issues like filing a cavity, cleaning teeth, plucking teeth and other similar problems. It is better, if you fix your budget for all these treatments, it will be easier for you to decide.

7. If possible try and enquire whether the dentist offers latest apparatus and tools used in the dental treatments. It would not be worthy enough to choose a dentist with old instruments and outdated equipments.

8. You need to be extremely careful to ensure whether the medical staffs follows any procedure to control infections like using gloves, masks and use of any uncontaminated apparatus. You must see that the dentist preserves your dental records for future reference. Following your problem, whether the doctor has checked the gums, teeth and mouth thoroughly enough to reach to a conclusion.

9. In case of a good and quality dentist, after your treatments gets over, you would be offered free advices on the ways to keep your teeth healthy, stronger and cleaner.

10. You should think twice to step ahead in a situation where the dentist suggests some unconventional mode of treatments. It can be very risky, so it is always suggested not to take that way.
